MODULE I: (Pre K - 8)
(4 - 8 sessions of 2 hours each)
Homework: Looking Beyond the Work
The goal of this Successful Parenting Series is to equip parents with the necessary knowledge, tools, and techniques that are vital in assisting their children with their homework and to increase their ability and effectiveness as parents in providing an effective learning home environment and a systematic support for their children’s academic success. Parents will learn the importance of establishing a routine and a structure that promote a home learning environment and good study habits, will increase their understanding of the fundamentals of homework and the role they play at home and at school in relation to homework and the learning process, will identify and examine theirs and their children’s “Learning Styles” in an effort to understand the distinctiveness of their children and the way they learn to help them become better students and to better assist with homework. Also, parents will develop an organization and discipline plan of action to better work as a team at home and at the same time to establish a collaborative school-family partnership and thus prepare themselves to have an effective parent- teacher conference at school.
MODULE II: (Pre K - 12)
(4 - 8 sessions of 2 hours each)
Parent Awareness: The Key to Academic Success
This module aims to provide parents with essential information, tools, and techniques about the importance of establishing a routine of discipline as a teaching and learning process, a structure of organization and time management, and communication as a dialogue. Also, parents will learn how to instill values that promote an effective learning home environment and a systematic support for their children’s academic success. The ultimate goal is for parents to realize what a decisive role they play in instilling high expectations in their children and being aware of what factors promote academic success.
MODULE III: (Pre K - 12)
(4 - 8 sessions of 2 hours each)
DISCIPLINE: How to make a “Stop” with our children without punishing
This training provides parents with a step-by-step ways to create a structure of discipline effectively that leads to cooperation without punishing in the home and teaches kids to be accountable and responsible for their behavior. Participants will learn how to create their own personal discipline system by understanding the meaning of discipline, learning how to set rules and use consequences effectively so that children learn limits and are motivated to behave appropriately, and by knowing how to identify their own “Parenting Styles” and their possible outcomes for their children.
MODULE IV: (Elementary - H.S.)
(4 - 8 sessions of 2 hours each)
The Essense of Adolescence: An Unknown World
Part I
This research-based training examines the latest studies associated with adolescent behaviors and development, highlights the positive and important role that parents play to help teens successfully transition into adulthood. Parents and educators attending this workshop will gain a better understanding of the important role that empathy plays in understanding teenagers and how our own adolescent years shaped our lives and parenting styles. Additionally, participants will learn effective strategies for staying emotionally connected and improving communication with their teens, while at the same time developing and establishing effective school-family partnerships.
THE ADOLESCENT BRAIN
Part II
(4 - 8 sessions of 2 hours each)
Participants will gain a better understanding of what makes a good kid do bad things. This workshop will make parents aware of what is going on inside the adolescent brain and why do they do what they do? Being aware of these neurological changes during adolescence can help parents and educators understand unexplainable behavior and how to anticipate and manage the behavior to prevent risk behaviors in adolescents.
MODULE V: (Elementary - H.S.)
(4 - 8 sessions of 2 hours each)
From High School To College: The pathway to success
This workshop contains principles that can be applied to all grades levels and will be especially useful to those parents who have students transitioning from middle school to high school or to college. Participants attending this workshop will gain a better understanding of the importance of a high school education and the options available to teens once they complete high school. Participants will explore the impact and causes as to why teens do not complete high school and what they can do to prevent this from occurring. Lastly, participants will understand what assets parents must provide and teens must possess in order to facilitate a successful completion of high school and attend to college
2 to 3 hour sessions.
